Modern Slavery Statement
Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement is made by Surrey Movers in respect of our financial year and sets out the steps we are taking to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business operations and supply chains.
Our Commitment and Zero-Tolerance Policy
Surrey Movers is committed to conducting all aspects of our business with integrity, fairness, and respect for human rights. We have a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, and all forms of exploitation. We expect the same high standards from all parties we work with, including suppliers, subcontractors, and business partners.
Any form of modern slavery within our operations or supply chains is unacceptable. Where such practices are identified, we will take immediate action, which may include termination of contracts, reporting to relevant authorities, and cooperation with any subsequent investigations.
Our Business and Supply Chains
Surrey Movers operates in the removals and relocation sector, providing moving, packing, storage, and related services. Our supply chains include providers of vehicles, fuel, packing materials, storage facilities, equipment, and various professional and support services. We recognise that some parts of these supply chains may be at higher risk of labour exploitation, particularly where multiple tiers of subcontracting or overseas sourcing are involved.
Due Diligence and Supplier Audits
We are developing and refining our due diligence processes to identify, assess, and manage modern slavery risks in our supply chains. Before entering into new relationships, and periodically thereafter, we seek to assess suppliers on their labour practices, working conditions, and adherence to human rights standards.
Our approach includes supplier self-assessment questionnaires, review of policies and procedures, and requests for information on workforce conditions. Where appropriate, we may conduct or commission audits of higher-risk suppliers. These audits may involve site visits, interviews with management and where possible workers, and examination of employment documentation. If a supplier fails to meet our requirements or is unwilling to engage constructively to improve standards, we will consider suspending or ending the relationship.
Policies and Training
Our internal policies support our commitment to preventing modern slavery. These include codes of conduct, recruitment and employment policies, health and safety standards, and policies relating to whistleblowing and ethical conduct. We aim to ensure that all staff are employed voluntarily, paid fairly, and work in safe and respectful conditions.
We are working to increase awareness among our employees about the risks and indicators of modern slavery. Training is being developed for managers, supervisors, and staff who interact directly with workers and suppliers, to help them recognise warning signs, respond appropriately, and escalate concerns.
Reporting Channels and Escalation
Surrey Movers encourages anyone who has concerns about possible modern slavery or human trafficking within our business or supply chain to report them without delay. Concerns may be raised through internal reporting routes, including managers and senior leadership, or via confidential whistleblowing channels made available to staff and, where appropriate, to workers within our supply chain.
All reports will be treated seriously and handled sensitively. We will not tolerate any form of victimisation or retaliation against individuals who raise concerns in good faith. Where we identify credible concerns, we will investigate and, where necessary, involve external experts or relevant authorities.
Risk Management and Continuous Improvement
We recognise that modern slavery risks may change over time. We are committed to continually improving our approach by monitoring evolving guidance, legislation, and industry best practice. We seek to embed respect for human rights into our decision-making, procurement processes, and supplier relationships.
By engaging proactively with suppliers and partners, we aim to build transparent, long-term relationships that support ethical employment practices and reduce the risk of exploitation across all tiers of our supply chain.
Annual Review and Board Oversight
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed at least annually to ensure that it remains accurate, relevant, and proportionate to the nature and scale of our operations. As part of that review, we evaluate the effectiveness of our actions, consider feedback from stakeholders, and identify areas for further improvement.
The statement is approved by the senior management of Surrey Movers, who are responsible for overseeing its implementation and ensuring appropriate resources are allocated to meet our commitments. Updated versions of this statement will reflect the progress we have made and the steps we plan to take in the coming year to combat modern slavery and human trafficking.
